i got an e-mail from my spanish host brother this morning. i hadn't talked to him in awhile.
apparently, on december 16th he got in a major car accident on his way to go skiing - it involved falling over the side of a mountain.
he broke all of his left ribs, lost some length of his spine, almost lost his left lung, broke his skull in three places, broke his cheekbones, his... etc etc. but he survived and reportedly is recovering quite well...
it's kinda surprising, that sort of news... i've been kinda dazed since i read it. i imagine i'll complete this day in a daze, really...

i cannot fathom the well from which one draws the courage to survive such an ordeal. i expect that most of us don't know paco, but he'll be in our thoughts.
