...missing something.
i'm listening to Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds most recent album(s) (Abattoir Blues and Lyre of Orpheus) and i'm beginning to realize that i should've been into him/them before. i mean, the spiritual and energetic beginning to the set ("Get Ready for Love") is a cannon blast and then the set turns from eerie ("Messiah Ward") to soulful and sad ("Abattoir Blues") to gospel ("O Children" - the album(s) closer). The one-two punch on Lyre of "Breathless" (a song that begins with a flute that at times sounds like a 3y.o. is playing it; and the song has a chorus that includes a gaggle of flautists that are out-of-sync and which still manages to be melodic and beautiful) and "Babe, You Turn Me On" (a melancholy song that simultaneously manages to be extremely sexy) alone make the albums worth owning.
anyway, rest assured, i shall be investing in more Nick Cave in the future.
