Your job, which you enjoy, is ending in possibly as little as a week, no more than three. Your temp agency, which loves you and is on the lookout for a great position for you calls and says:
"Hey, we've got this cool office manager job with a lobbyist downtown. Swanky office, good pay, its a temp-to-hire, but we may be able to get her to take you for just the three months that you'll be here for.... Can you interview next week? Oh by the way, the lobbyists clients: Phillip-Morris, the Pharmaceuticals (not at 80's rock band, the big scary ones that won't release studies that show anti-depressant drugs are bad/useless for children) and Energy companies. So, what do you think?"
On the one hand, you are in dire need of money. Job you know how to do, would do well, and hell, its only for 3 months right (because you're off to teach art to 4th graders in June)?!
On the other hand, everything in my soul reviles the three interests I'd ultimately be serving.
HELP!
I'm hoping this woman says "No, I need someone we could hire," so I don't have to say no to this job. Is this crazy? stupid? righteous?

I'd say there are a lot of factors to consider beyond the obvious downer of working for a firm like that. Maybe you change some minds while you're there and some people see that lobbying for these companies, while lucrative, is not the way to go, ethically. Maybe you have a shot at steering them toward a lobby you feel better about, or at least help with the paperwork in doing so. ;-) Plus, if the choice is between making good money or spending all your time job hunting, there are lots of productive and positive ways you can funnel some of your salary and the free time you have because you're not living by the seat of your pants. And in the end, you may find yourself in a position where having been inside a lobby like that is a huge boon for doing anti-tobacco education or advocacy for opening up pharmaceuticals research.
Just my $0.02. ;-)

Rich people don't have to have morals because they're too rich to care. Poor people can't exactly afford morals. Agree or no, you made me think of it.
Megs, if you're in dire need of money, and this is the only way you can think of to make money... I mean, do you have any alternatives to taking the job? I assume that you wouldn't be querying if you did. And if you don't have alternatives you don't have alternatives...

the school i'm working for here in prague hires its teachers out to PM. i happen to be one of those teachers.
i teach a higher-up in the P.R. dept. at the Czech Republic headquarters. she's a super person and she has made me realize that big tobacco does (very rarely) do beneficial things.
in particular, PM is/was the first company in the CR to set up a domestic violence hotline and has spent a good deal of money posting billboards around the CR advertising it, putting flyers in bathrooms, etc.
not that that excuses it from giving cancer to hundreds of thousands of millions of billions of people. but it also shows some small sense of responsibility. maybe not in the best place, but it's there. (they also have something called YSP, which to me is a joke. to you, i'm sure it will also be a joke: Youth-Smoking Provention Program. frankly, i'm astounded they even put money into it, regardless of its required nature.)
anyway, good to hear that you turned them down, regardless.
