Theatrical Eve of the New Year

It has been an indeterminate length of time since I last posted, therefore it is time to write in order to confuse those of you who were trying to discern a pattern for my updates or thought that I had abandoned this blog entirely.

One show closed, I was cast in another, and I have a working audition for a third.

Ruddigore went well, minor technical difficulties aside. Well, ok, I guess that the lighting system breaking down and flickering on every cue would be “major” technical difficulties, but our amazing technical crew managed to make it work! Luckily, in a show that has a mustachioed villain, maiden in peril, and ghosts, flickering lights kind of make sense. I half expected the orchestra to be replaced by a tinny-sounding player piano.

The wonders of live theatre.

Other than that major turned minor glitch, the show went well. I was sad to see it end. Friends and family traveled over a thousand miles to see it. I don’t think we disappointed.

I also found out that I was cast as Oscar Wilde in the departmental production of Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde. It looks to be an amazing cast, most of whom I worked with in this fall’s Brecht and Beckett class.

Out of respect for the gods of theatrical fates, I will not mention the show for which I have a working audition. Hopefully, I will be able to write about it after the details (and cast) are solidified.
